Town Hall

Located in the heart of the Town on a market square named in 1956 for Stefan Czarniecki, the building houses municipal offices of the Mayor and the Town Council.

The history of local government in Warka is very long. Worth noting is the fact that the Town Council (consuls and councilors) in Warka operated as early as 1375, and there was even a town court.

The Warka Municipal Office is located in the historic town hall, which is the symbol of the market square and the Town. Sources tell us that in 1742, it was made of wood and located in the middle of the square. The building was destroyed in the 1750s. The current Classicistic town hall was built in the early 19th century in the southern part of the square according to a design by Hilary Szpilowski and under the supervision of builder Bonifacy Witkowski.

In the years 2007-2008, the building underwent a comprehensive renovation as part of the “Local Program of Warka Town Revitalization.” The work included building an addition to the Town Hall on a steep escarpment in the back of the existing building, as well as constructing steps leading to the Pilica River.

The front wall of the Town Hall features commemorative plaques, funded by the community, which attest to the rich and turbulent history of the Town.

Today, the Offices house 10 departments and independent officers:

  • the Department of Civil Affairs,
  • the Civil Status Office,
  • the Investment and Renovation Department,
  • the Department of Budget and Taxes,
  • the Administrative and Legal Department,
  • Free Legal Aid and Counseling,
  • the Private and Public Housing Management Department,
  • the Plenipotentiary for the Protection of Classified Information,
  • the Internal Audit and Inspection Bureau,
  • the External Funds Acquisition Officer.

Currently, there are 16 councilors serving in the Town Council for the 2018–2023 term.
