Warka Sports Club

The Club’s genesis is closely connected with the “Sokół” Gymnastics Association (Towarzystwo Gimnastyczne Sokół). Sokół’s local branch was most probably established in 1923, alongside a sports club called “Przebój.” Undeniably, the Warka Town Council meeting minutes from 1932 mention a “Soccer Sports Club.” In the mid 1930s, the Club took part in the parade organized by the District Committee of Physical Education and Military Training in Grójec. At around the same time, Warka players lost 1:12 to one of the local teams (presumably from Białobrzegi).

After 1945, the organizational structure of the Club changed. In 1947, a new statute was compiled. The Club continued to change its name many times over several decades. In 1971, it was renamed Inter-Enterprise Pilica–Warka Sports Club (Międzyzakładowy Klub Sportowy Pilica–Warka). After 1990, the Club was called Pilica–Pulaski Warka Sports Club. Since 1997, the Club has been called Warka Sports Club.

The Club has had no permanent colors, and as a consequence, the latter would often change. Immediately after the War, the athletes wore green shorts and white shirts with green collars. In 1955, the colors changed to cherry shirts and leggings, accompanied by white shorts. In the 1960s, they would be represented by navy blue. Today’s colors are blue and red.

Until 1997, it was a multi-section club. Historically, there were athletics, shooting, basketball, volleyball, chess, water sports (kayaking), weightlifting, and cycling sections. On April 8, 1997, the Board canceled the contemporary Club and transformed it into a one-section Warka Sports Club/Soccer Club.

The most famous transfer was goalkeeper Zygmunt Kalinowski, who left for Legia Warszawa in 1968. Later, he went on to represent Poland as part of its national team, and together, they won the bronze medal at the World Championships in 1974. The list of other distinguished players includes: soccer player Benedykt Grzeszczak (“Benek from Warka”), runner Marta Mikołajczyk, and basketball player Marek Gajewski.

The Club currently trains about 180 players in nationally employed categories: Seniors, Juniors, Sneakers, Youths, Abecedarians, and Eaglets.

The activity of the Club from 1945 through 1997 laid foundations for the currently existing Clubs: START PULASKI WARKA Sports Club, Pulaski Warka Sports Club, “Korek” Warka Kayaking Club, and the Warka Volleyball Association.
