Vocational Education and Lifelong Learning Center in Nowa Wieś

Students from the Nowa Wieś Vocational and Continuing Education Center

Around 1965, the district of Grójec was already known as the land of blossoming apple trees. It seemed only logical that the local community have a school which would prepare its youth for the career of a fruit farmer. Nowa Wieś, located 5.5 miles west-north of Warka, seemed the perfect location.

A boarding school opened its doors in 1973. 347 students were divided into four classes of the Fruit Growing Technical School (Technikum Ogrodnicze)–three first-year classes of the Basic Fruit Growing School (Zasadnicza Szkoła Ogrodnicza) and one second-year class relocated from Jasieniec. In September 1978, a Fruit Growing School Complex (Zespół Szkół Ogrodniczych) was created, encompassing the schools in Nowa Wieś and their subsidiaries, which, in time, became independent or were closed.

In 1983, the Complex was named for Tomasz Nocznicki (1862–1944), who was born in the district and became a well-known social activist, deputy, and senator of the Second Polish Republic. The school placed great emphasis on the practical side of education, holding classes at the Fruit Growing Experimental Facility in Nowa Wieś (Sadowniczy Zakład Doświadczalny w Nowej Wsi) and the Farming Experimental Facility in Krobów (Rolniczy Zakład Doświadczalny w Krobowie) near Grójec.

In the late 20th and early 21st centuries, the Center was often reorganized. In 1997, it was named as the Tomasz Nocznicki Practical Education Center at the Horticultural School Complex (Zespół Szkół Ogrodniczych Centrum Kształcenia Praktycznego im. Tomasza Nocznickiego), and in 2002, the Tomasz Nocznicki Practical Education Center at the Post-Secondary School Complex (Zespół Szkół Ponadgimnazjalnych Centrum Kształcenia Praktycznego im. Tomasza Nocznickiego).

In the school year of 2004/2005, the Post-Secondary School Complex and the Practical Education Center were separated, with the latter becoming part of the District Lifelong Learning and Vocational Education Center in Grójec (Powiatowe Centrum Kształcenia Ustawicznego i Praktycznego w Grójcu) with headquarters in Nowa Wieś. In 2013, the Post-Secondary School Complex and the District Lifelong Learning and Vocational Education Center formed yet another entity, losing Tomasz Nocznicki from its name.

The following principals were: Janusz Frydrykiewicz (1973–1984), Otylia Świątkowska (1984–1989), Jacek Stolarski (1989–1992), Krystyna Gregorczyk (1992–2001), Jacek Domański (2001–2007), Danuta Borowiec (2007–2018), and the current principal is Anna Dacka.
