He worked hard both physically and intellectually as a tutor to be able to afford further education. He studied at the Faculty of Finances and Economics at the University of Political Sciences (Wy\u017csza Szko\u0142a Nauk Politycznych) in Warsaw, at the same time working at an elementary school in Warka. He also received a diploma in law from the University of Warsaw. From 1932, he worked at the Supreme Audit Office (Najwy\u017csza Izba Kontroli), first in the subsidiary in Brest on the Bug River and later in Warsaw. In 1929, he married Zofia Led\u00f3chowska, who was working as a teacher in Warka.<\/p>\n Nowakowski fought during the September Defensive Campaign and was captured by the Germans. In 1941, he managed to return to Warka. He accepted a job at the “SPO\u0141EM”\u2013 “Jedno\u015b\u0107” Popular Grocers’ Cooperative (\u201eSpo\u0142em\u201d Powszechna Sp\u00f3\u0142dzielnia Spo\u017cywc\u00f3w \u201eJedno\u015b\u0107\u201d). After the War, he was on the board of directors of a District Agriculture and Commerce Cooperative (Rejonowa Sp\u00f3\u0142dzielnia Rolniczo-Handlowa) and President of the Municipal “Peasants’ Self-Help” Cooperative (Gminna Sp\u00f3\u0142dzielnia \u201eSamopomoc Ch\u0142opska\u201d) in Warka. He also worked at the Mechanical Equipment Factory (Fabryka Urz\u0105dze\u0144 Mechanicznych) in Warka for over a decade. At times, he would teach a class at the Basic Vocational School (Zasadnicza Szko\u0142a Zawodowa) in Warka.<\/p>\n He was also active in the local community. He was deputy mayor of Warka and deputy chairman of the National Council in the District of Gr\u00f3jec (Prezydium Powiatowej Rady Narodowej w Gr\u00f3jcu).
