The Casimir Pulaski Museum
The historical and biographical Museum is dedicated to the Hero of Two Nations and Polish immigration to the United States of America. The Museum opened in 1967. The permanent exhibition is located inside the manor, which was decorated in the spirit of an old, Polish noble home from the late 18th/early 19th centuries. One can see sets of furniture, paintings, fabrics, porcelain, silver, old maps, documents, and prints and learn about the life and times of Casimir Pulaski (1745–1779), who spent his childhood in Warka lands.
General Pulaski was one of the most gifted leaders of the Bar Confederation, defender of Jasna Góra against Russian troops, and a Brigadier General in the American Revolutionary War. He died at Savannah, GA. Other rooms feature prominent Poles who, like General Pulaski, made history in the United States: Tadeusz Kosciuszko, Julian Ursyn Niemcewicz, Helena Modjeska, and Ignacy Jan Paderewski.
Since its beginnings, the Casimir Pulaski Museum has been documenting the history of Warka and its environs. On December 4, 2015, the Museum opened a second permanent exhibition entitled: “Warka–a place touched by history.”
The Museum organizes scholarly activities and acts as a publisher. It popularizes music and poetry through concerts, poetry readings, and meetings with authors. It hosts museum lessons, meetings, and competitions for children and teenagers.
Every October, the Museum organizes a Polish Casimir Pulaski Day, which is celebrated in front of the Hero’s monument. Since 2005, the Museum in cooperation with the W.A.R.K.A. Association has been organizing the VIVAT PULASKI Historical and Cultural Picnic to celebrate the American Independence Day.
The Casimir Pulaski Museum in Warka-Winiary is filled with the unique atmosphere of an old noble’s manor. Its interior is full of beautiful artifacts, and thanks to a recent renovation, the manor has regained its luster.
The Museum is a cultural institution co-managed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage and the District of Grójec.
