Dziekanka Comedy Club

In 1991, a group of musically and artistically gifted community activists came together and founded Dziekanka Comedy Club. It was an independent art group, not affiliated with any institution in Warka.

The Dziekanka Comedy Club made its debut on June 9, 1991 in the building of today’s volunteer Fire Department, once occupied by the Municipal Culture Center. Later, the Club performed on November 17, 1991; March 22, 1992; June 7, 1992; November 15, 1992; April 24, 1993; November 21, 1993; May 3, 1994; November 13, 1994; May 7, 1995; March 29, 1998, and the last show took place on May 30, 1999.

The Club’s membership never changed: Andrzej Kulik, Maciej Albert Zapart, Bożena Rosłoń, Tadeusz Rosłoń, Marek Wawro. The list of guest performers who appeared on stage over the nine years includes: Andrzej Gut, Małgorzata Okraj, Wojciech Koc, Stanisław Podlasek, Ireneusz Koseła, Barbara Grudzień, Leszek Owczarczyk, and Bogdan Sabała. Other, less regular guest performers were: Magda Tomala, Agnieszka Majchrzak, Monika Wójcik, and Aneta Jaworska. Dziekanka also invited the following individuals to participate: Leszek Wójtowicz, Anna Kurpińska, Anna Rosłoń, and Marek Wawro’s and Bogdan Sabała’s children.

Dziekanka made comedy history in Warka and was extremely popular. Their shows touched on Warka community and its current problems, as well as national issues. The audience flocked to the Municipal Culture Center’s building, and the “Przyjaźń” (“Friendship“) Motion Picture Theater to come together as a group and leave their individual problems behind.

In 2001, a songbook “Dziekanka Comedy Club Sentiments” (“Sentymenty Kabaretu Dziekanka”) was published.
