WORLD WAR II
1939
On September 1, German air forces bomb Warka. In the evening of September 8, armed forces of the German Reich seize the Town. Hard times of German occupation begin.
1939 – 1940
The infamous Jadwiga Kosmahl is appointed Mayor of Warka by the Germans.
1940
Germans establish a Jewish ghetto, while the NKVD executes Warka-connected officers in the USSR.
1941
Germans dissolve the ghetto, transporting Jews to Warsaw and later subjecting them to mass extermination.
1941 – 1944
Maksymilian Grabowski becomes Mayor of Warka. Through his actions, the town administration becomes less German and more Polish.
1943
German military policemen execute twelve Warka residents on the so-called Bloody Sunday.
1944
Warka residents are relocated to the interior of the Grójec district because of the ongoing battles on the Warka-Magnuszew bridgehead.
1945
In January, an offensive by Russian troops leads to the freeing of Warka from German occupation.
